Mali buries Touré after posthumous honour African blues pioneer Ali Farka Touré was buried Thursday, a day after his country awarded him its highest civil honour. On Wednesday, Malian President Amadou Toumani Touré posthumously named the Grammy-winning singer and guitarist a commander of the National Order. "Farka is a monument of Malian music. Décorations : Au Nom de la Patrie Reconnaissante Some 500 persons, both living and deceased who have contributed to the development of the country have been presented with awards. The médaille de Chevalier de l'ordre national (Medal of Knight of the National Order) was awarded to Mamadou Diarra of l'AMAP and to Karim Doumbia of l'ORTM. Seydou Cissouma, Communications Director to the President was elevated to the rankd of Chevalier de l'ordre national (Knight of the National Order), while co-worker Kader Maïga received the médaille du mérite national (National Merit Medal).
