| Carrington gets Guyana's third highest honour The Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (Caricom), Edwin Carrington, has been awarded the third highest National Honour of Guyana - the Cacique's Crown of Honour (CCH). The office of the president said the insignia of the CCH, under the Order of Service to Guyana, was presented to Carrington in recognition of his "indefatigable service to the region with distinction and commitment as Secretary-General of the Community". jamaicaobserver.com 27 Jul 04 |

South Africa honours Cheddi Jagan South Africa has posthumously honoured Guyana's late President Cheddi Jagan with its highest national award to distinguished international personalities - Order of Companions of O R Thambo. The award is named after the longest-serving leader of the African National Congress (ANC), President Oliver R Thambo, who is credited with playing a major role in the growth and development of the international movement against apartheid in South Africa and racism generally. The O R Thambo award in gold to Dr Jagan for his "exceptional contribution to the struggle against racial oppression and colonial exploitation", was presented at the weekend in Georgetown to his widow and former Guyana President Janet Jagan. jamaicaobserver.com 10 May 05 |
Patterson awarded Guyana's highest honour Jamaica's prime minister, P J Patterson is to receive Guyana's highest national honour - Order of Excellence (OE) - in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the Caribbean Community (Caricom). Guyana's President Bharrat Jagdeo made the announcement to honour his colleague Caricom head of government. Tributes flowed from all heads of government with recollections of the significant contributions Patterson had made during some three decades of association with Caricom, moreso since he succeeded the late Michael Manley in 1992 as prime minister. GDF decorates ranks for valuable service
The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) honoured five officers and 27 other
ranks for exemplary service at its 43rd anniversary medals presentation
ceremony. In a press release the GDF said too Chief of Staff
Commodore Gary Best also decorated 14 soldiers with Border Defence Medals (BDM) and another 18 earned
Military Efficiency Medals (MEM). Best commended them for their invaluable and
