Grand Cross of the Order of St. Alexander (Nevsky) with Swords This image of the front of the medal of this order was sent to me by Paul Walker, and comes from the estate of a US Army veteran, who brought it home from the European Theatre at the close of WWII. The modified crown and upturned pendalia define this order as being of the second type, more specifically from the III'rd Kingdom, post 1908. No visible hall marks on either the medal or star. This award was brought to the U.S. after WWII along with other German souveniers reflecting both the WW1 & WW2 conflicts. As Bulgaria was aligned with Germany during both conflicts, it is likely that this set was a valorous decoration awarded to a high ranking German officer. The medal, sash, and cross are in fine condition, with no chips, scratches, or damage to any of the fine enamel work. (Sep 02)
