Police, National Security Officers Awarded Medals, Diplomas Police, national security and prosecutorial officers have been awarded medals and diplomas on the occasion of the 13th anniversary of the internal troops of Armenia. RA President Robert Kocharyan issued a decree awarding the Battle Service Medal to the police officers: Captain Valery Khoderyan, Major Shavalla Karopyan, Lieutenant-Colonel Leva Vardoyev, Colonel Mikael Khachatryan (posthumously). Vice-Chief of the RA Police, Major-General Grigor Grigoryan received diplomas from RA Prime Minister Andranik Margaryan. RA minister of Defense Serge Sargsyan issued an order awarding the Marshal Baghramyan Medal to Vice-Chief of the Internal Troops Department, RA Police, Ashot Nalbandyan. The Andranik Ozanyan Medal has been awarded to Vice-Chief of the RA Police, Commander of the RA Police Troops, Major-General Grigor Grigoryan. The Drastamat Kanayan Medal was awarded to Colonel Merjabar Abramyan. The Garegin Mzhde Medal was awarded to Colonel Artur Mkrtichyan. The Medal for Combat Collaboration has been awarded to Colonel Hamlet Mkrtichyan for contributing to Armenia's security and to cooperation between the RA national security bodies and the RA Police. Sargsyan Awarded Medals to Peacekeepers, Who Took Part in Humanitarian Mission in Iraq Secretary of the National Security Council at the President of Armenia, Defense Minister Serge Sargsyan awarded Andranik Ozanyan, Vazgen Sargsyan medals, diplomas and memorable gifts to first group of Armenian peacekeepers, who took part in the humanitarian mission in Iraq. It should be noted that representatives of Armenia serve in Iraq as part of the Polish peacekeeping division. The first shift of Armenian peacekeepers was sent in Iraq January 18. The first rotation of the contingent took place six months after that. To continue the mission Armenian Parliament’s agreement is necessary. The Armenian contingent includes medical officers, sappers and drivers. Cilicia Crew Awarded Admiral Isakov Medals Secretary of the National Security Council at the President of Armenia, Defense Minister Serge Sargsyan awarded Cilicia vessel crew with Admiral Isakov medals for restoring Armenian navigation, traditions of medieval shipbuilding and strengthening Armenia-Diaspora ties. According to Spokesperson of the Armenian Defense Minister, colonel Seyran Shahsuvaryan, during the meeting Cilicia captain Karen Balayan and commissar, writer and publicist Zory Balayan presented the course of preparation works for the final phase of the voyage in Russian rivers and return of the vessel to Armenia. President Awards Medals to Prominent People Armenian President Robert Kocharyan awarded several prominent people in different fields with medals connected with 15th anniversary of independence in the republic. Harutiun Kushkyan, was awarded with the medal after Mkhitar Heraci, for his contributions in health sector. Kushkyan is the general director of “Nairi” medical center. Another decree of the president awarded medals to 6 other people in the field of health , among them a professor of a medical university, a member of National Academy of Sciences, a surgeon of Berd policlinics, Tavush region and three more others. Armenian President Awards "Kilikia" Crew Armenian President Robert Kocharyan awarded medals to the crew of the "Kilikia" sailer, which is back to Armenia from its voyage according to the sea route of Armenian merchants of the 13th century. On September 23, 2006, the RA President issued decrees awarding Medals for Services to Fatherland, First Class, to the Commissioner of the expedition Zory Balayan, Captain Karen Balayan and Advisor-Captain Samvel Karapetyan. Medals for Courage were awarded to the operator-sailor Samvel Balayan, Assistant Captain Areg Nazaryan, shift supervisors Hayk Badalyan and Armen Nazaryan, and to the cook Samvel Sargsyan. In 2004-2006, the "Kilikia" sailer, which was constructed according to the pattern of Armenian sailers of the Middle Ages, for the first time made a voyage according to the route of Armenian merchants, who maintained close trade ties with European market towns in the 13th century. During two years, the sailer visited 64 ports in 26 European and Mediterranean countries. The "Kilikia" sailer was constructed with the use of materials used in the 13th century. The builders, "Hayas" club of sea research, spent 11 years on the construction (May 1991 to May 2001). During the following two years the sailer was tested on Lake Sevan. "Kilikia" is currently in Yerevan, and later it will be delivered to Sevan and remodeled into a museum. The sailer was named after a legendary Armenian kingdom of Kilikia on the Mediterranean coat.
